Jagdish Sewhani, a member of the event organizing committee, expressed his excitement, saying, ‘It is a historical event in Nassau Coliseum, Long Island, New York. It looks like we are celebrating Diwali here… 15,000 Indian diaspora have come here in New York from 42 different states.’ More than 500 artists are set to perform, and the mayor of Nassau County is thrilled to welcome PM Modi, calling him the most popular leader in the world.

Honoring the Leader

Indian chef and restaurateur Vikas Khanna emphasized the importance of honoring the leader of one’s country, stating, ‘When a leader of your country comes, it’s our job, our duty to honour and respect him. They represent our family, our heritage, our ancestors.’

Traditional Performances

Artists from different groups are preparing to showcase traditional music and dance. Performances will include ‘Yakshagana,’ a traditional folk dance from Karnataka and Kerala, and the ‘Parai,’ a musical instrument from Tamil Nadu. A group will also perform Mallakhamb, an acrobatic activity from Maharashtra.

Promoting Culture

Jaydev Anata of Mallakhamb Federation US mentioned their goal of promoting Mallakhamb as an acrobatic and gymnastic sport in the USA, with the aim of getting it into the Olympics.

PM Modi shared his excitement on social media, posting pictures of his meeting with the Indian diaspora. He will also chair key bilateral meetings, attend a CEO Roundtable, and address the Summit of the Future on September 23.
