Prime Minister Modi Celebrates International Abhidhamma Divas

On October 17, Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the International Abhidhamma Divas celebration at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi. He highlighted India’s efforts to revive Lord Buddha’s legacy and recognized Pali as a classical language.

PM Modi’s Connection with Buddhism

PM Modi shared his lifelong connection with Buddhism, mentioning his birthplace, Vadnagar, Gujarat, as a historical Buddhist center. He recounted his experiences visiting significant Buddhist sites worldwide, including Nepal and Mongolia.

Recognition of Pali Language

Emphasizing the importance of language in culture, PM Modi celebrated the recognition of Pali as a classical language, ensuring the preservation of Buddha’s teachings.

Development of Buddhist Sites

PM Modi announced the development of a Buddhist circuit in India and Nepal, including projects in Kushinagar, Lumbini, Bodh Gaya, Kapilvastu, and Sanchi. He also mentioned his upcoming visit to Varanasi for new Sarnath projects.

Preservation of Cultural Heritage

Highlighting efforts to preserve India’s heritage, PM Modi noted the return of over 600 antiquities, many related to Buddhism, in the past decade.

Union Ministers Gajendra Shekhawat and Kiren Rijiju accompanied the Prime Minister at the event.
