Prime Minister Modi Announces New Invest India Office in Singapore

On September 5, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the establishment of an Invest India Office in Singapore. This office will assist Singaporean investors in various sectors, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

Opportunities in India

MEA Secretary East, Jaideep Mazumdar, highlighted the numerous opportunities in India, encouraging CEOs of leading Singaporean companies to understand what India offers. He mentioned that four Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) were exchanged, focusing on semiconductors, digital technologies, skill development, and healthcare.

Strengthening India-Singapore Relations

India and Singapore have elevated their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable identified six pillars of cooperation, with the four MOUs addressing four of these pillars.

Prime Minister’s Meetings

During his visit, PM Modi met with CEOs of major Singaporean companies with significant investments in India. He also visited AEM Holdings, a leading company in the semiconductor sector, and invited semiconductor-related CEOs to the upcoming Semicon India exhibition.

People-to-People Connections

Discussions were held to increase flight connections between India and Singapore. PM Modi announced the establishment of the Thiruvalluvar Cultural Centre in Singapore.

High-Level Meetings

PM Modi met with Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and attended a lunch hosted by Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong. He also held bilateral talks with Singapore PM Lawrence Wong, where they reviewed the progress of India-Singapore relations and exchanged four MOUs.
