Prime Minister Modi Announces Increase in MSP for Rabi Crops for 2025-26

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced an increase in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for all mandated Rabi crops for the 2025-26 marketing season. This decision, made by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by Modi, aims to provide better prices for farmers’ produce. Modi emphasized the government’s commitment to farmers’ welfare, stating that the increase will ease the lives of food providers.

The highest MSP increase is for Rapeseed and Mustard at Rs 300 per quintal, followed by Lentil (Masur) at Rs 275 per quintal. Other increases include Rs 210 per quintal for gram, Rs 150 per quintal for wheat, Rs 140 per quintal for safflower, and Rs 130 per quintal for barley. This aligns with the Union Budget 2018-19’s goal of setting MSP at least 1.5 times the all-India weighted average cost of production.

The expected margin over the cost of production is 105% for wheat, 98% for rapeseed and mustard, 89% for lentil, 60% for gram and barley, and 50% for safflower. This move is expected to ensure remunerative prices for farmers and encourage crop diversification.
