On October 7, Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India and President Mohamed Muizzu of the Maldives held important discussions in New Delhi. The meeting, which took place at Hyderabad House, focused on enhancing the bilateral relationship between the two countries. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri highlighted that the talks primarily revolved around the development partnership, economic and trade relations, and people-to-people connections.

While regional issues were touched upon, the main emphasis was on bilateral ties. A significant outcome of the meeting was the decision to begin discussions on a Free Trade Agreement. The talks were attended by key Indian officials, including External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

President Muizzu, who is on a five-day visit to India, was warmly received with a ceremonial reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan by President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Modi. The Maldivian President and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed also paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat.
