President Zelenskyy Announces Arrival of F-16 Fighter Jets in Ukraine
Kyiv, Ukraine – August 5: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced that F-16 fighter jets have arrived in Ukraine. He expressed his gratitude to Denmark, the Netherlands, and the United States for their support. Zelenskyy described the arrival of these jets as a ‘new chapter’ for Ukraine’s Air Force.
Since the beginning of the war, Ukraine has been requesting these jets to defend its skies against Russian missile attacks. The F-16s will provide air cover for troops, attack ground targets, engage enemy planes, and intercept missiles.
Speaking at an airbase outside Kyiv, Zelenskyy said, ‘We held hundreds of meetings and negotiations to strengthen our aviation and air defense capabilities. Now it is a reality. F-16s are in Ukraine.’
He also mentioned that while the current number of jets and trained pilots is not enough, more F-16s are expected to arrive, and training for pilots and engineers is ongoing. Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of expanding the training platform for their personnel.
The US committed to approving the transfer of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine in August last year, following months of lobbying by Kyiv.
