President Droupadi Murmu’s Historic Visit to Malawi and Mauritania

President Droupadi Murmu has embarked on a significant three-nation tour of Africa. On October 17, she arrived in Malawi, marking the second leg of her journey. She was warmly welcomed by Malawi’s Vice President, Dr. Michael Usi, with a ceremonial reception. This visit is notable as it is the first-ever State visit from India to Malawi.

During her stay, President Murmu will meet with the President of Malawi and address a business event. She will also engage with the Indian community in Malawi. The visit will see the signing of three Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) focusing on youth affairs, sports, and cultural exchange between India and Malawi. President Murmu is scheduled to return to India on October 19.

Earlier, President Murmu visited Mauritania, where she met with President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani. The discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral relations, resulting in the signing of four MoUs in areas such as diplomats training, cultural exchange, visa exemption, and Foreign Office consultations. The two countries also discussed cooperation in health, education, trade, and investment.

Addressing the Indian diaspora in Mauritania, President Murmu emphasized the importance of their role in India’s goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
