President Droupadi Murmu Visits Siachen Base Camp

New Delhi [India], September 26: President Droupadi Murmu visited the Siachen base camp on Thursday and paid her respects at the Siachen War Memorial. This memorial honors the soldiers and officers who have sacrificed their lives since the Indian Army began Operation Meghdoot on the Siachen Glacier on April 13, 1984.

Address to the Soldiers

During her visit, President Murmu addressed the soldiers stationed at the base camp. She expressed her pride as the supreme commander of the armed forces and conveyed that all citizens salute their bravery. She highlighted the harsh conditions the soldiers face, including heavy snowfall and temperatures as low as minus 50 degrees Celsius, and praised their dedication and vigilance in protecting the motherland.

Reception by Lt Governor of Ladakh

Earlier in the day, Lt Governor of Ladakh Brigadier B D Mishra welcomed President Murmu upon her arrival at Thoise Airfield.
