In Bhilai city, Chhattisgarh, a notorious criminal named Amit Josh was killed during a police encounter. The incident occurred when Josh, who had been evading arrest since June, opened fire on a crime branch team. The police, led by Durg Superintendent of Police (SP) Jitendra Shukla, retaliated in self-defense.

Background of the Incident

Josh had been on the police’s radar after a shooting incident four months ago in Sector 10’s Globe Chowk. He had been hiding and changing locations to evade capture. Recently, the police received information about his presence in Bhilai.

The Encounter

On the day of the encounter, Josh was spotted near Jayanti Stadium riding a motorcycle with an associate. When the police attempted to stop him, he fired two rounds at their vehicle and fled. The police, led by Crime Branch Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Hem Prakash Nayak, engaged in retaliatory fire, resulting in Josh being injured in the leg and chest.

SP Shukla stated that the police acted in self-defense and that Josh was not willing to surrender. The encounter ended with Josh’s death on the spot.
