Pokhara's First International Balloon Festival
The beautiful city of Pokhara in Nepal is hosting its first-ever International Balloon Festival, attracting participants from 30 countries. This exciting event is taking place in the Pame region, known for its adventure tourism.
Festival Highlights
The festival, sponsored by BYD and organized by Cimex Inc. Pvt. Ltd., began on Christmas Eve and will continue until January 2, 2025. It covers a three-kilometer stretch from Lauruk to Chankhapur. More than 20 international pilots are participating, sharing their experiences and promoting tourism in their home countries.

Participants can enjoy breathtaking views of the Annapurna, Machhapuchhre, and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges. Derek Hamcock, a pilot from the US, described the sight of the Himalayas as spectacular.

While this is Nepal's first, international balloon festivals are popular worldwide, such as the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta in the US and the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta in England.

The festival is expected to host 500 commercial flights and 300 non-commercial flights, with an estimated expenditure of Rs 68.3 million. This event aims to boost Pokhara's tourism recovery post-pandemic.
