New Delhi, India – Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set for a three-day visit to the United States starting Saturday morning. During this visit, PM Modi will meet world leaders, attend the annual Quad summit, and participate in discussions at the United Nations.

Quad Summit in Wilmington

The first event on PM Modi’s agenda is the annual Quad summit in Wilmington, Delaware, the hometown of US President Joe Biden. The Quad summit brings together leaders from India, Australia, Japan, and the United States to discuss regional security and cooperation in the Indo-Pacific. This summit is especially important for India as it will host the next one.

At the summit, PM Modi will join US President Joe Biden, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. They will discuss various topics, including climate change, clean energy, cyber security, and health security.

Key Initiatives and Announcements

Several important initiatives will be discussed at the Quad summit, including the Clean Energy Supply Chains Initiative, Quad Principles of Clean Energy Supply Chains, and the Quad Joint Principles for Secure Software and Cyber Security of Critical Infrastructure. The leaders will also talk about evolving the Quad Vaccine Partnership into a more comprehensive Health Security Partnership.

Additionally, the Quad Infrastructure Fellowships and the Quad Partnership for Cable Connectivity and Resilience will be announced to help Indo-Pacific countries with infrastructure and cable systems.

Special Cancer Moonshot Event

A special Cancer Moonshot event will be held on the sidelines of the Quad summit. This initiative aims to prevent, detect, treat, and alleviate the impact of cancer, starting with reducing the burden of cervical cancer in the Indo-Pacific region.

Meeting with US President Joe Biden

Before the Quad summit, PM Modi will have a bilateral meeting with US President Joe Biden. They will discuss various topics, including defence cooperation, economic partnerships, and new agreements related to the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework and an India-US Drug Framework.

Community Event and Business Roundtable

On September 22, PM Modi will address a community event of the Indian diaspora at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, New York. He will also attend a Business Roundtable with CEOs of leading US companies in areas like Artificial Intelligence, semiconductors, quantum computing, and biotechnology.

Summit of the Future at the United Nations

From Wilmington, PM Modi will travel to New York to attend the Summit of the Future at the United Nations on September 23. The theme of the summit is ‘Multilateral Solutions for a Better Tomorrow.’ This summit is a significant milestone as the UN approaches its 80th anniversary in 2025.

The outcome document of the summit, called the Pact for the Future, will address issues like health, energy security, climate change, and economic inequalities. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will also participate in the UNGA General Debate and deliver India’s national statement.
