PM Modi to Visit Russia: EAM Jaishankar Highlights Stronger Economic Ties and Urges Return of Stranded Indians

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar discussed the improved economic relationship between India and Russia ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Russia. He emphasized the importance of the upcoming meeting between PM Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Jaishankar noted that the economic relationship between the two countries has grown tremendously and that the meeting will be a great opportunity for both leaders to discuss their relationship directly. He also mentioned that the annual summit was delayed due to the busy schedules of both leaders but stressed the importance of such meetings.

Jaishankar addressed the issue of Indians stranded in the Russia-Ukraine conflict zone during his bilateral meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. He urged Russian cooperation for the safe return of these Indians, stating that it is unacceptable for Indian citizens to be in the army of another country in a warzone. He assured that the Indian Foreign Ministry is in talks with the Russian Defence Ministry to resolve this issue.

The discussions took place during the SCO Summit in Astana, Kazakhstan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on an official visit to Russia and Austria from July 8-10.
