PM Modi Meets Singapore Business Leaders and Former PM Goh Chok Tong to Boost India-Singapore Ties
On September 5, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with business leaders and CEOs in Singapore to discuss ways to enhance economic relations between India and Singapore. PM Modi highlighted the ongoing reforms in India aimed at encouraging investment and innovation.
Sharing his thoughts on social media, PM Modi wrote, “Interacted with top business leaders and CEOs in Singapore. We talked about ways to deepen economic linkages. I highlighted the reforms underway in India, which will encourage investment and innovation.”
During his visit, PM Modi also met with Goh Chok Tong, Emeritus Senior Minister and former Prime Minister of Singapore. They discussed ways to strengthen the friendship between India and Singapore. PM Modi expressed his appreciation for Goh Chok Tong’s contributions to fostering India-Singapore relations.
MEA official spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal noted that PM Modi appreciated Goh Chok Tong’s role in starting the “India Fever” in Singapore. They discussed ideas for further strengthening bilateral ties.
PM Modi announced the establishment of an Invest India Office in Singapore to assist Singaporean investors. MEA Secretary East, Jaideep Mazumdar, emphasized the opportunities in India and the importance of the CEOs understanding these offerings directly from PM Modi.
During the visit, four Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) were exchanged in areas such as the semiconductor ecosystem, digital technologies, skill development and education, and healthcare. These MOUs address four of the six pillars identified for future cooperation between India and Singapore.
India and Singapore have elevated their bilateral relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, marking a significant step in their future cooperation.
