Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Russian President Vladimir Putin during the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia. PM Modi invited President Putin to India for the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit next year. The leaders discussed cooperation in political, economic, defense, energy, and cultural sectors.

This was their second meeting this year, following a previous meeting in Moscow for the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit. PM Modi expressed gratitude for Russia’s leadership in BRICS and its efforts in global governance reform. They also discussed the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, with PM Modi advocating for dialogue and diplomacy.

The leaders agreed to strengthen their Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership. PM Modi highlighted the deep-rooted bond between India and Russia and announced the opening of a new Indian consulate in Kazan. President Putin humorously noted their close relationship, suggesting PM Modi doesn’t need a translator.

PM Modi’s visit to Kazan included attending a dance performance by Russian artists. The 16th BRICS Summit is chaired by Russia in Kazan.
