PM Modi Congratulates Praveen Kumar and Hokato Hotozhe Sema for Paralympic Medals
Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a telephonic conversation with Paris Paralympic medal winners Praveen Kumar and Hokato Hotozhe Sema. Praveen secured the gold medal in the men’s high jump T64 final with a record-breaking jump of 2.08m, creating a new Asian record. Hokato Hotozhe Sema won the bronze medal in the men’s shot put F57 final with a personal best throw of 14.65m.
PM Modi discussed with Praveen how he used the internet during his training to improve his performance. He also appreciated Hokato’s efforts to win a medal in his first Paralympics at the age of 40. Hokato shared his story of losing his leg in a landmine incident in 2014 while posted in Jammu & Kashmir.
India’s medal tally in the ongoing Paralympics has reached 27, with six golds, nine silvers, and 12 bronzes, the highest number of golds and total medals in a single edition of the Paralympic Games. India competed in 12 disciplines, including new sports like para-cycling, para-rowing, and blind judo.
