Pavan Kapoor Meets Andriy Yermak to Discuss Peace Efforts in Ukraine
Kyiv, Ukraine – On August 11, Pavan Kapoor, the Deputy National Security Advisor to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, met with Andriy Yermak, the head of the office for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. They discussed India’s role in helping to restore peace in Ukraine amidst the ongoing conflict with Moscow.
Andriy Yermak expressed his hope that Prime Minister Modi would contribute to these peace efforts. He stated, “I emphasized the importance of restoring a just peace for Ukraine and for India’s participation in this process. Expressed hope that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will contribute to these efforts.”
Yermak also highlighted the dire situation on the frontline and the shelling of civilian infrastructure, including a recent Russian attack on Kostyantynivka. This attack on a supermarket resulted in the deaths of at least 14 people and injuries to 43 others.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attack, stating, “Russian terrorists hit an ordinary supermarket and a post office. There are people under the rubble.”
During the recent Group of Seven (G7) Summit, India participated as an outreach country. Prime Minister Modi, in a bilateral meeting with President Zelenskyy, reiterated India’s commitment to a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Ukraine. He emphasized that the resolution cannot happen on the battlefield but only through dialogue.
Prime Minister Modi also expressed his sorrow over the loss of lives, especially innocent children, stating that it is “heart-wrenching” when such tragedies occur.
