Pappu Yadav’s Concerns

Independent MP from Purnia, Pappu Yadav, has raised concerns about the lack of laws against illicit liquor in Bihar. He questioned why the government hasn’t implemented such laws despite changing policies frequently. Yadav stated that if he were in power, he would impose life imprisonment on those involved in the manufacture and sale of illicit liquor and dismiss officials in the affected areas.

Tejashwi Yadav’s Criticism

RJD leader and former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, Tejashwi Yadav, criticized Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his Cabinet for their response to the tragedy. He accused Kumar of not expressing condolences and mocking the victims and democracy. Tejashwi also noted the lack of communication from the CM with the media, public, or victims.

Police Investigation

Gopalganj Superintendent of Police, Awdhesh Dixit, reported that a Special Investigation Team is investigating the incident, with 14 arrests made and raids conducted at over 200 locations.

Government’s Response

BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad stated that the government is working effectively, with CM Nitish Kumar instructing the DGP on the matter. The death toll has reached 33, with 28 deaths in Siwan and 5 in Saran, Bihar.

The tragedy has led to a political blame game, with opposition parties questioning the effectiveness of the liquor ban imposed by the Nitish Kumar government.
