Pakistan’s NAB Seeks to Freeze Assets of Imran Khan’s Aide Zulfi Bukhari
Islamabad [Pakistan], September 1: Pakistan’s National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has filed a plea in an accountability court to freeze the assets of Sayed Zulfikar Abbas Bukhari, a close aide of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Bukhari has been repeatedly absent from court hearings in a corruption case, leading the accountability court to designate him as a proclaimed offender. To ensure his appearance in court, the NAB has requested the judge to order the confiscation of his assets.
According to the NAB, Bukhari owns 30 plots in Sector 16 of Islamabad, four plots in Sector 15, and 1,300 kanals of land in Attock. The court will review NAB’s request and make a decision on freezing Bukhari’s assets in the coming days.
Earlier, the Ministry of Interior approved the issuance of a red warrant against PTI leader Bukhari. A red warrant is an international notice sent to Interpol seeking the arrest and extradition of an individual. The interior ministry has instructed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to contact Interpol’s French branch to obtain the red warrant for Bukhari.
The red warrant was approved in connection with an attack on the Judicial Complex in Islamabad during the PTI Chairman’s court appearance in the Toshakhana case.
