Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif Discusses Constitutional Reforms

In Islamabad, Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif stated that passing constitutional reforms is not a “do or die” situation for the government led by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). During an appearance on the “Khabar” program, he mentioned that the administration plans to propose three constitutional amendments aligned with the Charter of Democracy. One of these amendments includes establishing a constitutional court.

The government is seeking support from the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), led by Maulana Fazlur Rehman, for these reforms. Khawaja Asif noted efforts to persuade Maulana Fazlur Rehman to back the amendments. He also criticized Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur for his actions, which he described as more than a ‘simple software update’ and accused him of trying to cover up violent protests.

Furthermore, Khawaja Asif questioned the silence of PTI founder Imran Khan regarding Ali Amin Gandapur’s actions, implying there might be a reason behind it. Previously, Maulana Fazlur Rehman met with PTI leaders to discuss the proposed reforms. PTI leader Salman Akram Raja mentioned that Maulana Fazlur Rehman is committed to his historical stance on the amendments and hinted at positive news for the nation soon, crediting Maulana Fazlur Rehman for not supporting the amendments.
