On October 20, Union Minister of State for External Affairs, Pabitra Margherita, attended the inauguration ceremony of Indonesia’s President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming in Jakarta. This event marks a significant milestone as India and Indonesia celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations in 2024.

Prabowo Subianto, who previously served as the defense minister, won the presidential elections with 59% of the votes. He, along with Vice President Gibran Rakabuming, aims to continue the development initiatives started by former President Joko Widodo.

During his visit, Margherita paid tribute at the National Monument of Indonesia, a symbol of the country’s struggle for independence. He also met with business leaders from Indian companies in Indonesia to discuss ongoing investment projects.

Margherita emphasized Indonesia’s role as India’s second-largest trade partner in ASEAN, with trade exceeding 35 billion USD. The visit underscores India’s commitment to strengthening its Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Indonesia.

Margherita’s tour of the global south, including visits to Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Grenada, and Mexico, aligns with PM Modi’s vision for unity among countries of the Global South.
