P Chidambaram Confident in Congress Victory in Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir
In Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, former Union Minister P Chidambaram expressed his confidence that the Congress party will win the assembly elections in Haryana and form a government in Jammu and Kashmir with its ally, the National Conference. He believes that the Congress party’s long-standing policies and approach will be accepted by the people. Chidambaram stated, “We are confident that the Congress party’s long-established policies and approach will be accepted by the people. For a short time, it might appear that another ideology and another set of policies have won but in the long run, it is the Congress party’s policies and ideology that will be acceptable to the people and I hope that the results of the elections in Haryana and J-K will prove my point.”
Chidambaram also expressed his condolences for the death of five people due to “excess heat and other medical conditions” during the Chennai IAF air show. He remarked, “It is unfortunate, sad. Fifteen lakh people have witnessed the air force exercise…I hope that the state government will be generous and will offer some compensation to the families.”
The votes for the assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana will be counted on October 8. Exit polls have predicted a clear victory for Congress in Haryana and the National Conference-Congress alliance leading in Jammu and Kashmir.
