Opposition to Raise NEET Exam Issues in Parliament Amid Protests

The opposition coalition, known as the INDIA bloc, is preparing to address alleged irregularities in the National Entrance-cum-Eligibility Test (NEET) conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in Parliament. This decision follows widespread protests across the nation.

Meeting at Mallikarjun Kharge’s House

Earlier in the day, leaders of the INDIA bloc met at Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge’s house. They discussed various issues, including the NEET exam. DMK MP Tiruchi Siva stated, “We will give notices (in Parliament) on the NEET issue tomorrow.”

Potential Protest

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh mentioned that if the NEET issue is not taken up for discussion, the opposition would stage a protest inside the House. He also noted that the INDIA bloc leaders have decided to participate in the debate on the motion of thanks to the President’s address starting Monday.

Other Issues to be Raised

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi emphasized that all burning issues of the country would be raised in Parliament. Hanuman Beniwal, President of Rashtriya Loktantrik Party, added that issues like Agniveer, inflation, unemployment, and MSP would also be discussed.

CBI Investigation

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a criminal case to investigate the alleged irregularities in the NEET exam. The NEET (UG) 2024 exam, held on May 5, 2024, saw over 23 lakh candidates appearing at 4,750 centers in 571 cities, including 14 abroad. An unprecedented 67 candidates achieved a perfect score, leading to protests.

Ministry of Education’s Response

The Ministry of Education has formed a high-level committee to recommend reforms in the examination process, data security protocols, and the functioning of the NTA.
