OpenAI’s Srinivas Narayanan Pledges Support for India’s AI Mission at Global Summit
OpenAI Vice President Srinivas Narayanan announced that his company, which runs ChatGPT, will support India’s AI Missions and application development initiatives. He made this statement at the Global India AI Summit in New Delhi.
“OpenAI is committed to backing India in its India AI Mission and application development initiatives to ensure that Indian developers can build on our models and benefit society,” Narayanan said.
He urged the Union Ministry of Information and Technology to continue discussions where OpenAI can add value. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) hosted the two-day Global India AI Summit 2024 in the national capital.
Narayanan highlighted the importance of the Indian market, stating that OpenAI’s leadership keeps India in mind when making important decisions. He noted the significant progress in AI over the last decade, mentioning that GPT, launched 1.5 years ago, has been transformative and widely used, including in India.
He also pointed out that AI is being used in various industries worldwide, adding speed and dynamism to India’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. Entrepreneurs are building innovative products, reducing the cost of intelligence, and creating natural interfaces to computing.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, in his inaugural speech, emphasized the shared responsibility to work towards the safe use of AI.
OpenAI, an American artificial intelligence research organization, was founded in December 2015 and is headquartered in San Francisco. Sam Altman is the Chief Executive Officer of the company.
