Omar Abdullah to Become New Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir

On October 16, Omar Abdullah, a leader from the National Conference, will take the oath as the new chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir. This announcement follows the revocation of the president’s rule in the region, allowing for the formation of a new government after the recent Assembly elections.

Omar Abdullah shared on social media that he received an invitation from Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to form the next government. The Ministry of Home Affairs issued a notification confirming the end of the president’s rule, which was in place since the reorganization of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories.

This marks the first elected government in the region since the abrogation of Article 370. The elections were held in three phases, with results declared on October 8. The National Conference-Congress alliance won 48 out of 90 seats, with the National Conference leading the victory.
