Omar Abdullah Sworn in as Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir

On a significant day for Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah took the oath as the Chief Minister of the region. The ceremony was held at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre in Srinagar, with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Saxena administering the oath.

Hope for Statehood

Senior Congress leader Dr. Karan Singh expressed optimism about the new government, hoping it would be successful. He emphasized the importance of restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, which is currently a union territory.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge reiterated the party’s commitment to restoring statehood, congratulating Omar Abdullah on his new role. He highlighted the importance of democracy being re-established in the region.

Dr. Karan Singh noted the challenges faced by the new government, particularly in providing jobs and business opportunities for the youth of Jammu and Kashmir. The Congress party, despite having only six seats, supports the new government led by Farooq Abdullah’s majority.

Calls for Action

Congress leader Ghulam Ahmad Mir urged the Prime Minister to act swiftly in response to the people’s mandate for statehood restoration. He emphasized the need for the government to address the issues arising from the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019.

PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti also congratulated the people on achieving a stable government, urging the new administration to address the challenges faced since the abrogation of Article 370.

New Cabinet Members

Alongside Omar Abdullah, several leaders were sworn in as part of the new cabinet, including NC leader Surinder Kumar Choudhary as Deputy Chief Minister, and other ministers from various constituencies.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by prominent leaders, including Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and other INDIA alliance leaders.
