Om Birla Re-Elected as Lok Sabha Speaker

Om Birla has been re-elected as the Speaker of the Lok Sabha for the second time. The motion for his re-election was moved by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and seconded by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. The House adopted the motion through a voice vote.

Birla’s Vision for the 18th Lok Sabha

Upon his re-election, Birla thanked Prime Minister Modi, party leaders, and Members of Parliament for their support. He called for the 18th Lok Sabha to be a center of creative thinking and new ideas, aiming to establish high levels of parliamentary traditions and dignity. Birla emphasized the importance of dignified discussions and cooperation between the ruling side and the opposition.

Support and Expectations from Opposition Leaders

Opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav, congratulated Birla on his re-election. Rahul Gandhi highlighted the importance of representing the voice of the people and assured cooperation from the opposition. Akhilesh Yadav expressed hopes that the opposition’s voice would not be stifled and called for fair treatment of all members.

Commitment to Parliamentary Traditions

Birla assured that the 18th Lok Sabha would uphold its commitment to preserving and protecting the Constitution. He welcomed the 281 first-time MPs and encouraged them to learn from their senior colleagues. Birla stressed the need for positive criticism of government policies and meaningful dialogue in a healthy environment.

Election Process

The election process was conducted by Pro-tem Speaker Bhartruhari Mahtab. Prime Minister Modi moved the motion for Birla’s re-election, which was seconded by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Other MPs also supported the motion. After the vote, Om Birla was declared the Speaker of the 18th Lok Sabha and took the Speaker’s Chair to conduct the proceedings of the House.
