In Bhubaneswar, Odisha, Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo announced that multiple state departments have been put on high alert due to the impending Cyclone Dana. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted heavy rainfall as the cyclone is expected to make landfall on October 24.

The Deputy Chief Minister stated, “The Odisha government is fully prepared, especially in the energy and agriculture sectors. The revenue department is also ready. We have reviewed the situation, and necessary instructions have been issued to concerned officers. Leaves have been canceled, and everyone is on high alert.”

He further mentioned that the districts of Kendrapara, Balasore, and Bhadrak are expected to be the most affected. Other coastal districts like Jagatsinghpur, Puri, and Ganjam may also experience heavy rainfall.

Advisories have been issued to agricultural officers and district collectors to prepare for potential evacuations and ensure quick drainage of rainwater.

Earlier, the IMD reported that a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a depression by October 22, moving towards Odisha and West Bengal coasts. It is expected to become a severe cyclonic storm with wind speeds of 100-110 kmph, gusting up to 120 kmph, as it crosses between Puri and Sagar Island on the night of October 24 and early morning of October 25.
