In Bhubaneshwar, Odisha, Hemanta Sharma, the Principal Secretary of Odisha’s Department of Energy, announced that energy grids and emergency transmission towers in districts expected to be affected by Cyclone Dana are under close watch. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts that Cyclone Dana will cross the north Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island on the night of October 24 and early morning of October 25.

Sharma stated, “All preparations are going on. Our electricity distribution companies in Baleswar, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Puri, and Cuttack have alerted their executive engineers and SDPOs and set up a control room. Manpower has been arranged to repair and restore any kind of damage.” He added that working teams have been mobilized and vulnerable grids are being mapped, with arrangements to be completed according to the SOP.

Government’s Preparedness

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi assured that the state government is fully prepared to handle any situation arising from Cyclone Dana, emphasizing zero casualties and no need for panic. “100% evacuation will be made after identifying vulnerable areas. NDRF, ODRAF & Fire Services teams are ready,” he said. Cyclone shelters will be equipped with necessities, and efforts are in place for the early restoration of power, water, and communication services.

Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo mentioned that multiple departments are on high alert due to the predicted heavy rainfall. “The Odisha government is in total preparedness in both the energy and agriculture departments,” he said, noting that Kendrapara, Balasore, and Bhadrak are expected to be mainly affected.
