NTT R&D Forum in Tokyo Unveils Cutting-Edge Technologies
The NTT R&D Forum in Tokyo, Japan, recently showcased groundbreaking technologies that are becoming increasingly important for society and industry. One of the highlights was the world's first experiment with an Optical Quantum Computer. Professor Akira Furusawa from The University of Tokyo explained that they have developed a programming language to operate this machine. The program is uploaded to a cloud server, which sends commands to the machine at the RIKEN Institute. After processing, the machine sends a reply back to the user via the cloud server. This demonstration highlighted the potential for accurate and rapid operations between distant locations.
Brainwave Technology for Remote Control

By using brain waves during exercise, specific parts of the brain can be activated to operate devices or avatars. For instance, activating the right side of the brain moves the avatar to the right. This technology has applications for social settings and for assisting individuals with disabilities, such as controlling a wheelchair.
Enhancing the Golfing Experience
NTT has also developed sensor technology to improve the golfing experience. Dr. Takemi Mochida, a Senior Research Scientist at NTT, introduced a smartphone application for golfers. By using a commercial insole sensor and a sensor on the golf club, the app visualizes each stroke's unique characteristics. It helps golfers optimize their technique by showing the relationship between foot placement and the golf swing.
