On Monday, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval met with his US counterpart, Jake Sullivan, in New Delhi. The two leaders reviewed progress in their high-level dialogue, focusing on areas such as defense, cyber, and maritime security.
According to a joint press release, Sullivan updated the Indian side on changes to US missile export control policies under the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR). These changes aim to enhance US commercial space cooperation with India.
The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted the ongoing strategic partnership between the United States and India, emphasizing their shared commitment to peaceful nuclear cooperation. Sullivan announced efforts to finalize steps to delist Indian nuclear entities, promoting civil nuclear cooperation and clean energy supply chains.
The two NSAs have engaged in extensive discussions on a broad agenda, including the India-US Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technologies (iCET). This initiative, launched by Prime Minister Modi and President Biden, covers areas like Artificial Intelligence, Quantum Computing, and Telecommunications.
During an event at IIT Delhi, Sullivan expressed optimism about strengthening technological cooperation between the two countries. He announced the removal of regulations hindering civil nuclear cooperation between Indian nuclear entities and US companies.
Sullivan noted that this visit might be his last overseas trip as NSA, marking the progress made in the India-US partnership over the past four years. He expressed confidence in future collaborations in semiconductor technologies and space exploration.
NSA stands for National Security Adviser. In India, Ajit Doval is the person who advises the government on matters related to national security.

A strategic partnership is a relationship between two countries where they work together on important issues like defense, security, and technology to benefit both nations.
Cyber security is about protecting computers, networks, and data from unauthorized access or attacks. It is important to keep information safe and secure.
Maritime security involves protecting the seas and oceans from threats like piracy, illegal fishing, and pollution. It ensures safe and secure use of the sea for trade and travel.
Missile export policies are rules set by a country about selling or sharing missile technology with other countries. Changes in these policies can affect international cooperation in space and defense.
Delisting Indian nuclear entities means removing certain Indian organizations from a list that restricts them from participating in nuclear-related activities. This can help in civil nuclear cooperation between countries.
Critical and emerging technologies are new and important technologies that can have a big impact on the future, like artificial intelligence and advanced computing. Countries work together to develop and use these technologies.
