NPPA Sets New Prices for 20 Essential Drugs in India

The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has announced new retail prices for 20 drugs under the Drugs Prices Control Order, 2013. These drugs address various health issues, including blood pressure and respiratory problems. The Bisoprolol and Amlodipine Tablet combination, manufactured by Higgs Healthcare and Mankind Prime Labs Pvt Ltd, treats blood pressure. Levosalbutamol and Ipratropium Bromide Respules, also from these manufacturers, help with breathing by relaxing airway muscles.

Other drugs, such as the Atorvastatin, Aspirin, and Clopidogrel Capsule combination from Surien Pharmaceuticals (P) Ltd./Unison Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd., prevent blood clots and reduce cholesterol. The NPPA’s decision was made during a recent meeting, which also set prices for cefuroxime axetil tablets from Dr Reddy’s Laboratories and L-Carnitinr mecobalamin and folic acid tablets from Cadila Pharmaceuticals.

In a press statement, the Union Ministry of Health and NPPA announced a price revision for eight scheduled drugs to ensure availability and affordability. The NPPA approved a 50% increase in the ceiling prices of 11 formulations of eight drugs, crucial for public health programs. These drugs are used for treating asthma, glaucoma, thalassemia, tuberculosis, and mental health disorders.
