In Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, the Nishad Party, led by Sanjay Kumar Nishad, has announced its support for the NDA candidates in the upcoming by-polls. This decision follows a promise from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to give due respect to the Nishad Party. Sanjay Kumar Nishad stated, “We are preparing for 9 seats. We will support the NDA candidates to ensure victory.”

Political Reactions

Meanwhile, Congress MP Pramod Tiwari criticized the BJP, accusing them of avoiding competition in Ayodhya by filing a petition regarding the Milkipur seat by-election. Tiwari questioned why the BJP did not withdraw the petition if they were truly interested in contesting.

Upcoming By-Polls

The Election Commission of India has announced by-polls for 48 assembly constituencies, including nine in Uttar Pradesh and the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala. The BJP aims to regain its momentum in Uttar Pradesh after a setback in the recent Lok Sabha polls, where it won only 33 seats compared to 62 in 2019. The Samajwadi Party, led by Akhilesh Yadav, won 37 seats, while Congress, in alliance with the Samajwadi Party, secured six seats.

The by-polls in Uttar Pradesh will take place in Meerapur, Kundarki, Ghaziabad, Khair, Karhal, Phulpur, Katehari, Majhawan, and Sishamau. The Samajwadi Party has already announced candidates for six of the ten seats and plans to contest alongside Congress.
