NIA Charges Gurpreet Singh in Punjab Terror Conspiracy

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against Gurpreet Singh, also known as Gopi, in a Punjab terror conspiracy case. Gurpreet, from Tarn Taran, Punjab, is linked to Khalistani terrorists Harwinder Singh Sandhu (Rinda) and Lakhbir Singh (Landa) of the banned group Babbar Khalsa International (BKI). The chargesheet was submitted to the NIA Special Court in Mohali.

Role in Terror Activities

Gurpreet Singh is accused of being involved in a conspiracy by BKI terrorists to spread terror in Punjab and other parts of India. He was allegedly part of an RPG attack on Police Station Sarhali in December 2022. Despite being jailed for this attack, he maintained contact with foreign handlers after his release.

Extortion and Recruitment

The NIA’s investigation revealed that Gurpreet conspired to raise funds for BKI through extortion from businessmen, following Landa’s instructions. Landa recruited vulnerable youth for the BKI terror module, and Gurpreet conducted reconnaissance on targets identified by Landa, attempting to eliminate them.

Legal Actions

In January, the NIA seized an illegal weapon from Gurpreet’s house. He faces charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Indian Penal Code, and Arms Act.
