In Sukma, Chhattisgarh, a Naxalite was killed during an early morning encounter with security forces on Saturday. The incident occurred in the jungles near Tumalpad village under Chintagufa police station limits.

Details of the Encounter

The joint team of security personnel, including the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Bastar Fighters, was on an anti-Naxalite operation when the encounter took place. According to the Sukma police, a weapon and a large cache of Naxal-related materials were recovered from the site. The identity of the deceased Naxalite is yet to be determined, and a search operation is still ongoing in the area.

Four battalions of the Central Reserve Police Forces (CRPF), comprising 4000 personnel, are set to be deployed in Bastar for anti-insurgency operations.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, during an inter-state coordination meeting with Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and other officials, stated that there has been a 70% reduction in the deaths of security personnel due to Naxalism. He expressed confidence that the fight against Naxalism is in its final phase and aims to completely eliminate it by March 2026.
