Narcotics Control Bureau’s Bike Rally for an Addiction-Free India
Event Details
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) organized a bike rally in Chandigarh to raise awareness for an addiction-free India. This event took place ahead of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, which is observed on June 26.
Key Figures
Deputy Director General Neeraj Kumar Gupta was present at the rally. He emphasized the importance of public participation in the fight against drugs. He stated, “NCB as a national coordination agency, has been working on an everyday basis since 1987 to fight against drugs. We all are facing this problem. It is a war against drugs.”
Ongoing Efforts
Gupta highlighted NCB’s ongoing efforts, including the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Pakhwara’ campaign, which started on June 12 and involves all 30 zones in India. The campaign aims to raise awareness and celebrate the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
Support for Drug Addicts
Gupta also stressed the importance of treating drug addicts as patients rather than criminals. He said, “Drug addicts are not criminals. They are the victims of the drugs. If there is a drug addict in the house, then the person should be supported. Treat it as a disease and help him come out of it. Take him to a de-addiction centre and conduct a counselling.”
International Day against Drug Abuse
The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, also known as World Drug Day, is marked on June 26 every year to strengthen action and cooperation in achieving a world free of drug abuse.
