On October 22, Nagpur District Collector Vipin Itankar announced that the district is fully prepared for the Maharashtra Assembly election nominations. Meanwhile, sources from the Maharashtra Chief Electoral Office dismissed Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut’s claims about the possibility of President’s Rule in Maharashtra post-elections. They clarified that the Election Commission’s role is to conduct elections and submit the list of newly elected MLAs to the Governor by November 26, 2024, as per constitutional provisions. The Governor can then invite the formation of the government, independent of the Assembly’s term expiry.
Raut had alleged that the BJP feared losing to the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, suggesting this influenced the election timeline. However, these claims were deemed baseless by electoral sources.
