Murtaza Khan Holds Roadshow in Mendhar for Upcoming Jammu and Kashmir Elections

BJP candidate Murtaza Khan holds roadshow in Mendhar, Jammu and Kashmir.

Poonch (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], August 29: Murtaza Khan, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from the Mendhar Assembly constituency, held a roadshow on Thursday. Mendhar will vote in the second phase of assembly elections on September 25.

Khan visited the constituency following the announcement of his candidature by the BJP earlier this week. He said, “Today is the first time when I visited the constituency after the declaration of my candidature. The way this election campaign has started indicates that the election journey would not be difficult. Youth and elderly will be joining our campaign, and we will achieve success…”

Khan also criticized the pre-poll alliance of the National Conference (NC) and Congress, stating, “The alliance will not stand…NC’s manifesto mentions that they will revisit the existing reservation policy. They want to disturb the existing reservation policy.”

Meanwhile, the Election Commission of India (ECI) issued the notification for the filing of nomination papers for the second phase of assembly elections in J-K. As many as 26 assembly constituencies will go to polls in this phase.

According to the notification, the last date for filing nominations is September 5, with scrutiny on September 6. The last date for withdrawal of candidatures is September 9. Voting will take place from 7:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M., and counting will occur on October 4.

In the 2014 Assembly elections, the PDP won 28 seats, the BJP won 25, the NC won 15, and the Congress won 12. The PDP and BJP formed a coalition government led by Mufti Mohammed Sayeed, but the BJP withdrew from the alliance in 2018 after Mehbooba Mufti took over.

Jammu and Kashmir is expected to witness multi-cornered contests on most seats. This is the first assembly poll since the abrogation of Article 370. In the recent Lok Sabha elections, the BJP won both seats in Jammu, while the NC won two seats.
