Mumbai BJP Chief Ashish Shelar Criticizes Rahul Gandhi Ahead of Maharashtra Visit

Mumbai BJP President Ashish Shelar has criticized Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, before his visit to Maharashtra. Shelar demanded an apology from Gandhi for his comments on ‘reservation’ and ‘Veer Savarkar’.

Shelar stated, “Rahul Gandhi should apologize to Chaitya Bhoomi and seek forgiveness from Babasaheb Ambedkar for his remarks about reservation. If he doesn’t respond, BJP will protest.” He questioned Gandhi’s right to abolish reservation, a constitutional right granted by Dr. Ambedkar.

Rahul Gandhi is set to lead the opposition’s election campaign in Maharashtra starting November 6, participating in a joint rally with NCP chief Sharad Pawar and Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray. During the rally, they will release a common guarantee, as announced by Maharashtra Congress President Nana Patole.

Shelar also commented on the state of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), claiming it no longer exists due to internal conflicts among its leaders. He mentioned that Congress has three factions and that Pawar is struggling to unite them.

Last month, Gandhi, speaking at Georgetown University, suggested that Congress might consider scrapping reservations when India becomes a “fair place.” He emphasized the need for a caste census, highlighting the lack of representation for OBCs, Dalits, and Adivasis.

The Maharashtra Assembly election is scheduled for November 20, with vote counting on November 23.
