MP Engineer Rashid Released from Jail to Campaign for Jammu and Kashmir Elections
Lok Sabha MP Engineer Rashid walked out of Tihar jail after Delhi’s Special NIA court granted him interim bail in a terror funding case. The bail allows Rashid to campaign for the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections, and he must surrender on October 3.
Speaking to reporters, Rashid pledged to fight against PM Modi’s ‘Naya Kashmir’ narrative and work for the welfare of his people. He criticized the abrogation of Article 370 and vowed to unite the people of Kashmir.
National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah commented that the bail was a political move to garner votes rather than serve the people. He expressed concern that the people of Baramulla would remain unrepresented after Rashid’s return to jail.
The Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections will be held in three phases on September 18, 25, and October 1, with counting on October 8. There are 90 assembly constituencies, with 7 seats reserved for SCs and 9 seats reserved for STs.
