Mohsin Naqvi Hopes for India’s Participation in ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan

In Lahore, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairperson Mohsin Naqvi expressed optimism that India will participate in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan next year. During a press interaction, Naqvi stated, “I am hopeful that the Indian team will come to play the Champions Trophy, and all teams will participate.” Pakistan has not hosted a major ICC event since the 1996 ODI World Cup, which it co-hosted with India and Sri Lanka. The 2011 tournament was moved to India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh after a 2009 terror attack on the Sri Lankan team’s bus in Pakistan.

India last visited Pakistan for the 2008 Asia Cup, while Pakistan has traveled to India for several events, including the 2016 ICC T20 World Cup and the 2023 ODI World Cup. During the 2023 World Cup, Pakistan played matches in Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Kolkata, with a high-profile match against India in Ahmedabad.

Currently, Pakistan is playing a three-match Test series against England, with the first Test in Multan. Pakistan won the toss and chose to bat first. England ranks fourth in the ICC World Test Championship standings, while Pakistan is eighth after a series loss to Bangladesh.
