Meeting on Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2024 Postponed to September 19-20 in New Delhi
A meeting of the Joint Parliamentary Committee on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, which was scheduled for today, has been postponed due to technical reasons. The new dates for the meeting are September 19 and 20, 2024.
The meeting will take place at the Parliament House Annexe in New Delhi. Representatives from the Ministry of Minority Affairs will provide oral evidence before the committee on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024. The committee will also hear views and suggestions from experts and stakeholders, including Prof Faizan Mustafa, Vice Chancellor of Chanakya National Law University, Patna; Pasmanda Muslim Mahaaz; All Indian Muslim Personal Law Board; All India Sajjadanashin Council, Ajmer; Muslim Rashtriya Manch, Delhi; and Bharat First, Delhi.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah recently stated that the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, which focuses on the management, preservation, and misuse of Waqf properties, will be passed in Parliament soon. He made this announcement during a press conference marking the first 100 days of the third term of the PM Modi government.
The fourth meeting of the Joint Parliamentary Committee to examine the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, was held on September 6. During this meeting, senior officials from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) made a presentation, and several stakeholders, including the Zakat Foundation of India and the Telangana Waqf Board, shared their views and suggestions.
