In Lahore, Pakistan, the Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has called for a practical and sustainable plan to eliminate the polio virus, which remains a significant issue in the country. She has instructed authorities to initiate vaccination campaigns at all entry points in Punjab.

Meeting on Polio Eradication

During a meeting chaired by Maryam Nawaz, it was decided to track and register mobile and migrant populations in Punjab. Accurate data on missing children will be compiled during the vaccination campaign. The meeting was attended by Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, Health Ministers Khawaja Salman Rafique and Khawaja Imran Nazir, and other officials.

Commitment to a Polio-Free Punjab

Maryam Nawaz Sharif has committed to making Punjab polio-free and is personally overseeing the vaccination campaign. She emphasized the importance of public support and directed authorities to maintain a cold chain according to standard operating procedures.

Recent Polio Cases in Pakistan

Recently, two new polio cases were reported in Sindh, bringing the total to 39 cases in Pakistan this year. In Balochistan, three new cases were confirmed, affecting children aged nine months to five years, leaving them disabled. This surge highlights the ongoing challenge of eradicating polio in Pakistan.
