West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee visited Mumbai and met with Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray at his residence. She also met Thackeray’s family and promised to campaign for him in the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections.

On the same day, Banerjee met with NCP-SCP leader Sharad Pawar. According to party leader Rohit Pawar, the discussion was centered around family and friends, highlighting the long-standing relationship between Banerjee and Sharad Pawar.

These meetings took place after the Mahayuti alliance, which includes the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Ajit Pawar faction of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), and the Eknath Shinde faction of the Shiv Sena, won nine out of eleven seats in the Maharashtra Legislative Council polls. This victory is seen as a significant step ahead of the state assembly elections.

In the 2019 Assembly polls, the BJP had 105 MLAs in a House of 288 seats. The combined Shiv Sena had 56 MLAs, and the combined NCP had 54 MLAs. After the split, the Shinde Sena has 37 MLAs, and the Ajit Pawar-led NCP has 39 MLAs.
