Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu Visits India
On October 7, Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu visited India to strengthen the relationship between the two countries. During his visit, several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed to enhance cooperation in various fields.
Key Agreements Signed
Five MoUs were signed between Indian and Maldivian delegates. A Currency Swap Agreement was signed by Ahmed Munawar, Governor of Maldives Monetary Authority, and Ajay Seth, Secretary of the Department of Economic Affairs in India. Another MoU was signed between Rashtriya Raksha University of India and the National College of Policing and Law Enforcement of Maldives, represented by Ibrahim Shaheeb and Rajendra Kumar.
Further agreements included cooperation between the Central Bureau of India and the Anti-Corruption Commission of Maldives, and a renewal of an MoU on judicial training and capacity building. Additionally, an MoU on sports and youth affairs was renewed.
Meetings and Discussions
President Muizzu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi held bilateral talks at Hyderabad House, followed by delegation-level discussions. Key Indian officials, including External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, were present.
President Muizzu’s visit began with a ceremonial reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan, where he was welcomed by President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Modi.
