Malaysia PM Anwar Ibrahim Meets President Droupadi Murmu in India

Malaysia Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. This visit marks PM Ibrahim’s first trip to India as the Prime Minister of Malaysia.

Strengthening India-Malaysia Relations

President Murmu welcomed PM Ibrahim and highlighted the shared values of democracy, multiculturalism, pluralism, and mutual respect that guide India-Malaysia relations. She expressed satisfaction that both countries have decided to upgrade their partnership to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and are working on an action-oriented roadmap for its implementation across various sectors.

Key Areas of Cooperation

President Murmu noted that Malaysia is a strong partner for India in the ‘Global South’ and a key player in ASEAN and the Indo-Pacific vision. She extended best wishes for Malaysia’s upcoming chairmanship of ASEAN in 2025 and reiterated India’s commitment to working with Malaysia for a peaceful and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.

Through PM Ibrahim, President Murmu also conveyed her congratulations to the King of Malaysia, Sultan Ibrahim, on his recent coronation.

PM Modi’s Remarks

Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the importance of the India-Malaysia relationship, noting that Malaysian investment in India reached over 5 billion dollars last year. He also expressed India’s support for Malaysia’s successful ASEAN chairmanship in 2025.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi held a bilateral meeting with PM Ibrahim at Hyderabad House to discuss further deepening the partnership between India and Malaysia across various domains.
