Maharashtra IMA Calls for Better Protection and Working Conditions for Doctors

Maharashtra IMA Advocates for Doctor Safety and Improved Working Conditions

The Maharashtra Indian Medical Association (IMA) is actively working to enhance medical education and healthcare services. They have made several requests to ensure a peaceful environment and better working conditions for medical staff.

Addressing Attacks on Healthcare Workers

The IMA has raised concerns about attacks on doctors and healthcare facilities. They are demanding a strict law to prevent such incidents and have suggested amendments to the Maharashtra Medicare Act, 2010. The IMA proposes creating ‘Safe Zones’ and implementing proper security systems in medical areas.

Hospital Registration and Renewal

Changes to hospital registration and renewal processes were suggested, including exempting 50 beds from the Maharashtra Nursing Home Act and using a single-portal system for renewals. They also recommended removing provisions for increased registration fees and infrastructure requirements for older hospitals.

Biomedical Waste Management

The IMA proposed removing bank guarantees and implementing standard rates for waste management. They also suggested eliminating the need for sewage treatment plants in rural areas.

Inclusion in Health Schemes

Recommendations were made to include private hospitals in the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogyaa Yojana (MJPJAY) and to ensure transparency in the scheme.

Improving Doctor Facilities

The IMA suggested establishing safe and well-equipped restrooms for doctors, especially for female doctors working night shifts. They also recommended improving infrastructure, hiring qualified faculty, balancing working hours, and installing CCTV cameras in areas with many female doctors.

Policy and Governance Suggestions

The IMA called for the abolition of the ‘Seat Blocking Bond Policy’ due to its high costs. They also suggested re-establishing democratic governance and increasing council members. Additionally, they recommended ensuring drug quality and waiving GST on essential medical items.

The IMA emphasizes the importance of healthcare as an election issue and is committed to working with the government to provide affordable and accessible healthcare services in Maharashtra.
