Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], August 23: KT Rama Rao, the Working President of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), has filed a formal complaint about political violence against BRS members, allegedly by Congress party cadres, and police negligence. Rao urged the Director General of Police (DGP) in Suryapet to take swift action against those involved in the Tirumalagiri attack and assaults on journalists.
Rao highlighted that these incidents, driven by political interference, have led to false cases and violence against opposition leaders. Earlier, Rao held a press conference stating that the party staged a peaceful protest across the state on Thursday at all Mandal and constituency centers, focusing on the farmer's loan waiver issue.
Rao said, "Yesterday, we staged a peaceful protest across the state in all Mandal and constituency centers on the farmer's loan waiver issue. During this protest, two incidents occurred. In Suryapet, Tirumalagiri town, our BRS workers were staging a peaceful demonstration. About 50 Congress goons, in collusion with the police and under the influence of alcohol, attacked us, pelting stones, eggs, and crude bombs. However, our workers did not retaliate. The police destroyed the tents and aided the Congress goons. The Chief Minister is inefficient."
He expressed dismay at the police's role, saying, "We sympathize with the police force, but it's unacceptable for some officers to misuse their authority in this manner." Rao warned that power is transient and those in authority should act responsibly.
Rao accused Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of being a "Delhi slave," stating that Reddy has made 20 trips to Delhi and demanded an apology from him. He added, "He is a 'Delhi slave' who has gone to Delhi for the 20th time. Yesterday, two women journalists in the CM's hometown of Kondareddypally were attacked by Congress goons. They even chased the women journalists from Kondareddypally to Kalwakurthy."
Rao demanded that the Chief Minister explain why his party workers insulted women. "Why did your party workers insult the women? If you are a man, come to the villages without security. Let's go to any village. Not a single village has completed the loan waiver so far," Rao added.
The BRS delegation expressed concern over what they described as a recent trend of police officers acting with "over-enthusiasm." Rao said, "The brand image of Telangana and Hyderabad should not be damaged. Do not mistake our patience for inefficiency. Do not test our patience. We will retaliate if necessary. We have requested the DGP to take action against those police officers who are aligning with political leaders."
Additionally, he mentioned that if Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy has any issues, he should address them with the HYDRA Commissioner, Ranganath. Jagadish Reddy, a BRS member, stated that when the farmers protested, they did not receive the loan waiver. Consequently, at the request of BRS Chief KCR, they staged a state-wide protest.
