Arctic Open 2024: Indian Shuttlers Shine
In the ongoing Arctic Open in Vantaa, Finland, Indian badminton player Kiran George has advanced to the round of 16. He secured his spot by defeating Wang Tzu Wei from Chinese Taipei with scores of 23-21, 21-18.
Commonwealth Games champion Lakshya Sen also moved forward to the pre-quarterfinals. He advanced after Denmark’s Rasmus Gemke withdrew due to an injury.
However, PV Sindhu faced a setback as she was defeated by Canada’s Michelle Li in the first round. Sindhu lost 21-16, 21-10 in a match that lasted 37 minutes. This was Sindhu’s first tournament appearance after the Paris Olympics 2024 and her first match under new coaches Anoop Sridhar from India and Lee Soon Il from the Republic of Korea.
Michelle Li will now face India’s Unnati Hooda, who won against Brazil’s Juliana Viana Vieira with scores of 21-16, 23-25, 21-17.
In other matches, Aakarshi Kashyap advanced to the round of 16 by defeating Germany’s Yvonne Li 21-19, 21-14 in a 45-minute match. Malvika Bansod also progressed to the next round after a victory over Chinese Taipei’s Sung Shuo Yun with scores of 21-19, 24-22.
