In Ranchi, Jharkhand, two prominent political figures, Kedar Hajra and Umakant Rajak, have joined the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) party. Kedar Hajra is a former BJP MLA from Jamua, and Umakant Rajak is a former vice president of the All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) and ex-MLA from Chandankyari. They were welcomed by Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, who expressed his enthusiasm on social media, stating that their addition, along with their supporters, strengthens the JMM family.

Political Landscape in Jharkhand

The JMM is currently the largest party in Jharkhand with 30 MLAs. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) follows with 25 MLAs, and Congress has 16. An alliance between Congress and JMM has been announced for the upcoming elections, with seat sharing details to be finalized soon.

Upcoming Elections

Jharkhand is preparing for assembly elections, which will occur in two phases on November 13 and 20. The Election Commission has also scheduled Maharashtra’s single-phase election for November 20, with vote counting set for November 23. Jharkhand has 2.60 crore eligible voters, including 1.31 crore males and 1.29 crore females, with 11.84 lakh first-time voters and 66.84 lakh young voters. Key dates include October 25 and 29 for nominations, October 28 and 30 for scrutiny, and October 30 and November 1 for withdrawal of candidatures.
