Kartik Kumar and KM Laxmi Shine at 11th Bengaluru Marathon
The 11th Bengaluru Marathon, a prestigious event certified as a National Open Marathon by the Athletics Federation of India, took place on Sunday. The race began at the Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
Men’s Elite Race
Asian Games silver medallist Kartik Kumar emerged victorious in the men’s elite race, completing the marathon in 2:22:50. Kartik, who also finished fourth in the men’s 10,000m at the Portland Track Festival 2024, was followed by Pradeep Singh Chaudhary with a time of 2:23:35 and Harshad at 2:25:50.
Women’s Elite Race
In the women’s category, KM Laxmi claimed the top spot with a time of 3:00:21. Last year’s winner, Jyoti Gawate, finished third, clocking in at 3:25:21, while Ashvini Jadhav secured second place with a time of 3:12:42.
Half-Marathon Results
In the men’s half-marathon, Ashok Bind led the pack with a time of 1:12:05, followed by M Nanjundappa and Manikanta P. In the women’s half-marathon, Tejaswini finished first, with Manisha Joshi and Bugalee Kumari Gurjar taking second and third places, respectively.
National Records
India’s national marathon records remain unbroken, with Shivnath Singh’s 2:12:00 for men set in 1978 and OP Jaisha’s 2:34:43 for women set in 2015.
